"People work in a variety of ways. Enchord is open to interpretation. It's about open context and I think people will discover delight in its flexibility," designer Sam Hecht states, referring to the design of their desk concept for Herman Miller's Lifework Portfolio.

Hecht and partner Kim Colin formed London-based Industrial Facility in 2002 to "...explore the junction between industrial design and the world around us." Since then, the design firm has contributed its perspective and intellectual rigor to a wide range of international clients like Yamaha, Epson, and Muji. Everything from kitchen appliances to electronics to interior furnishings has benefited from the ideas of Industrial Facility.

In keeping with their legacy of partnering with outstanding problem solvers to help people work more efficiently and effectively, Herman Miller engaged Industrial Facility to contribute to its new line of furnishings for home work environments.

The result is the smart, trim, and stylish Enchord desk and mobile cabinet. The desk, with no defined front or back, has dual horizontal surfaces--the top one is fixed while the lower can be configured left, right or center to fit the ever-evolving needs of home workspace. The accompanying mobile cabinet is a multi-functional marvel, with integrated features for filing, storage and cord management.

Enchord is characteristically personal and undeniably civil, adaptable to multiple environments, configurations and tastes. An immediate icon? Considering Industrial Facility's brilliance and Herman Miller's history, it's likely. However, like the design itself, it's open to interpretation.
